Next-Generation Force Protection: Hearables, Biometric Intelligence, and Integrated Tactical Systems at the Edge
Session Information:
- Date/Time: Tuesday, January 20 at 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
- Location: Venetian Convention Center – Lido Ballroom 3104 (third floor)
This session explores how defense-ready hearables and next-generation tactical technologies are redefining force protection, communication, and human performance. Attendees will gain a behind-the-scenes look at how innovation—fueled by Department of War programs, the US Congress, SBIR funding, and private-sector partnerships—is driving a new era of integrated protection systems that merge hearing safety, biometric intelligence, communication, and situational awareness.
Led by Sam Kellett, Jr. (CEO, Aware Defense and Dr. Robert Matthews (CTO, Aware Defense), this dynamic session highlights the future of defense innovation at the edge—where human performance, technology, and readiness converge.
Joining them will be tactical industry partners including Axil, Invisio, and Gentex —companies leading the charge in integrated tactical innovation. Together, these experts will discuss how their systems combine protection, communication, sensing, and cognitive awareness to enhance warfighter and defender safety in real-world operations.
The session will also provide practical insights into how agencies and units can access funding pathways, grants, and partnerships to modernize their tactical equipment and adopt next-generation hearing protection, communications, and biometric solutions.
Session Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Understand how advanced hearables and tactical communication systems enhance force protection, situational awareness, and mission success.
- Recognize the ear as a powerful neural gateway for continuous brain and physiological monitoring.
- Identify emerging biometric intelligence and neuromodulation applications in defense, tactical, and operational environments.
- Learn from real-world case studies funded by DoW innovation programs, including SBIRs and Congressional appropriations.
- Discover funding mechanisms and strategic partnerships to help agencies acquire lifesaving hearing protection and performance technologies.
